A tale as hard to read as it is intense and full of hope, I couldn't put down Push and finished it in one sitting, a feat, because I am a slow reader, even for thinner books.
Push is written through the eyes of Claireece Precious Jones, who has been abused by her parents and forced to stop school because she is impregnated by her father. She is sent to an alternative school called Each One Teach One and starts off illiterate and learns how to read and write under the guidance of Blue Rain, the instructor. Through writing she shares her trials and slowly rebuilds her confidence and esteem, and her life as her literacy improves.
